North East Hampshire MP Ranil Jayawardena welcomed news that Hampshire will receive a share of government funds for pothole repairs.
Nearly £100million in Department for Transport funding has been handed out to councils to tackle the mounting pothole crisis in the country following extensive winter damage to roads.
Hampshire will receive a £2,956,522 share of the pothole/flood resilience funding announced on Monday last week.
More than £2m has already been given to Hampshire from the Pothole Action Fund this year.
The fund is also on top of Hampshire highway’s maintenance funding allocation of £23.8m in 2017/18, and will be £21.6m in 2018/19.
Ranil Jayawardena MP said: “Just as the UK recovered from the Beast from the East, our roads were battered again by Storm Emma.
“With this unexpected icy spell, our roads suffered more damage than Hampshire County Council could have anticipated.
“It is wholly welcome, therefore, that HM Government has recognised this problem and is providing Hampshire with an extra £3m to fix this winter’s damage to our roads.”
