Travis and Lily-Mae

TWO local pupils are showing tremendous promise as athletes of the future as they continue to dominate national competitions.

Hot on the heels of being crowned British Tetrathlon Champions within their age categories in Bath earlier this month, Lily- Mae Lancaster Evans,13 and Travis Moore,12 have struck gold once again.

The two Sherfield School pupils were named British Laser Run Championships within their age categories at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh last Saturday.

This means they have now both qualified to compete for Team GB at the World Laser Run Championships in Madeira later this year. They have also qualified for the European Laser Run Championships In Athens this summer.

The talented pair are active athletes within the sport of Modern Pentathlon.

Lily-Mae from Sherfield-on -Loddon also won a gold team medal with her club - Leweston Pentathlon Academy, whilst Oakley resident Travis won Team Gold with his Wessex Wyvern Clubmates.

Lily-Mae competes in the U15G category, Travis is in the U13B and both train regularly with Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club and Basingstoke Bluefins.

If that wasn’t keeping them busy enough, the pair have also qualified to compete at this year’s European Modern Biathle Championships which will see them complete a swim-run.

Lily-Mae’s mum Amanda Evans commented: “Lily-Mae trains incredibly hard and absolutely loves what she does. Training in a multi-discipline sport such as Modern Pentathlon requires a lot of time and effort. She is extremely committed and loves what she does. She also has a lot of fun and has made some amazing friends through the sport. She is very lucky to have some amazing coaches who are so supportive. We are very proud of what she has achieved so far and excited to see what the future holds. Both Lily-Mae and Travis are very focused and doing extremely well.”

Travis’s mum Julie Moore added: “He is incredibly proud to have the chance to represent GB again and hopes to bring back some medals. I am so proud of everything he has already achieved at such a young age. He is very competitive and focused but shows impeccable sportsmanship when he shakes all fellow athletes hands at the race finish. Sport is very important to him, both mentally and physically and he has made many friends all over the world through Modern Pentathlon.”
