Schools, are you ready to rock?

Registration opened on Tuesday for the 2019 Rock Challenge and J Rock tour. Registration is open to Junior and Primary Schools, Senior Schools, Academies and Sixth Form Colleges who are invited to take part in one of the UK’s most exciting and popular educational performing arts events.

Rock Challenge® events, facilitated by registered charity The Be Your Best Foundation, aim to inspire, engage and motivate young people to make healthy and positive lifestyle choices. Each show provides the opportunity for young people to experience an adrenalin-based high through performing live on a professional stage rather than using tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. Schools rehearse and support one another during the day, before performing in in a spectacular evening show.

They will be holding three local events for senior teams, which will take place on Monday 4th March, Tuesday 5th March and Wednesday 6th March 2019. They will also be holding three events for junior and primary schools/academies on Thursday 7th March, Friday 8th March and Saturday 9th March. All of these events will take place at The O2 Guildhall, Southampton. Teams of students will perform a five to eight minute dance, drama and design piece that they have prepared over the course of many months with teachers, parents and members of their wider community.

Set to a theme of their choice each school’s performance is completely original and can vary from tackling a political or social message, retelling a true event, or can be based on an entirely imaginative concept. Rock Challenge® and J Rock™ can help increase the understanding of social issues, key PSHE topics, historical events, scientific events or literature; should a school choose to research a theme in one of these areas.

Last year fifty local schools were involved in the Southampton events and 2019 looks set to attract even more schools, making it the most popular year yet!
