Building To Begin After Residents’ Land Challenge

BEWLEY Homes has confirmed they are now ready to build 82 homes on the land at Two Gate Lane in Overton, following objections from many of the local community.

The company secured planning consent in November when an inspector ruled in favour of Bewley Homes’ appeal against refusal for the development.

The mix will include one-bedroom maisonettes, two, three and four bedroom homes, as well as provision for public open space at the site. As part of the scheme, 33 affordable homes for rent and shared ownership will be built.

Andrew Brooks, Managing Director at Bewley Homes, said: “This is a significant development for the area and we are delighted to be back building in Overton again. We are now looking forward to delivering our high-quality Garden Village Collection of homes for both private and affordable tenure. These 82 quality new homes will help some of the way to satisfy the local demand for new housing in Overton and in the Basingstoke and Deane borough.

Our ethos is to deliver greener and more sustainable schemes for the future. As part of our proposals, we instructed ACD Environmental to undertake a Biodiversity Impact Calculator (BIC) assessment to establish the impact on biodiversity. As a result, Bewley Homes has committed to retaining and enhancing on-site habitats including woodland, native hedgerow and bramble scrub and providing new on-site habitats including native hedgerows, lowland meadow vegetated gardens and new trees. In addition to the on-site enhancements, we have also committed to creating additional off-site habitat in the form of 0.83Ha of mixed deciduous woodland and 1.15 Ha of lowland meadow.”
