End Of The Road For Hollie

ELEVEN year old Hollie, has completed her challenge to run 60 miles within 60 days to help raise money for The Pink Place and The Blue Space in Basingstoke.

Hollie began her challenge on 16 February and finished on Thursday 7 April, completing her last mile at her school in Thatcham, cheered on by all the pupils, teachers and parents, and with pink and blue smoke representing the charity’s colours.

Hollie shared: “I came up with the idea of 60 within 60 which I knew would be quite difficult, but I didn’t want it to be too easy. I smashed my original fundraising target and can’t believe that I’ve raised £ 1,450.62. I chose The Pink Place because I wanted a charity that helped local people and they also have The Blue Space which supports men too. I also visited the charity to meet some of the people whom the money that I have raised will help and was presented with a plaque and certificate.”

Christine Griffiths, Fundraising and Events Manager at The Pink Place added: “Our whole charity has been so inspired by Hollie, who at such a very young age has shown so much maturity and determination to complete this challenge, running in all weathers, she remained so focused, and has raised an astonishing amount of money. Hollie has also been an inspiration to other children in the school who are now thinking about doing their own challenge for charity. With such amazing support from the school, these children really are the fundraisers of the future.

The Pink Place, which incorporates The Blue Space for Men, offers a range of free wellbeing services, complementary therapies, counselling, mindfulness classes and support, both ‘in person’ and via Zoom to anyone from initial cancer diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. Our aim is to help combat the feelings of loneliness, fear and anxiety and I would urge ladies and gents affected by cancer, not to suffer in silence, but to contact the charity.”
