Experience one of the iconic sieges of the Civil Wars with The Sealed Knot. It had it all – multiple sieges, a plot, personalities and celebrities of the day, triumph and disaster, and outrage. Basing House, typified the doggedness of the Royalist cause and the determination of Parliament.
As part of the 2022 Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations, join us on Friday 3rd and Saturday the 4th June 2022 to see hundreds of historical re-enactors re-creating the sights and sounds of the siege. This historic site will once again echo to the sounds of the canon’s roar, the musket fire, the cavalry charge and more!
The displays start at 2.00pm each day, telling the story of Basing House through the sieges between 1642-1645, culminating in the storming of the house.
Alongside the battle will be our Living History display within the grounds of Basing House, where you get up and close to more of what life was like during this period.
Today the remaining house and grounds are cared for by Hampshire Cultural Trust (HCT), who will be joining The Sealed Knot in integrating the house grounds into the overall event.
Basing Common is situated alongside the A30 Basingstoke to Hook Road. Parking will be available via the event entrance situated on Park Lane.
