ANOTHER great day in the history of Basingstoke and Mid Hants AC saw Caius Joseph take the bronze medal in the England Combined Events Championship.
Held in conjunction with a World CE Series event held at the Bedford Stadium, Caius eventually scored a magnificent 7383 points, a big new PB by 450 points and along the way notched up numerous other PBs. Third overnight Caius consolidated his place on the second day and a clearance in the Pole Vault of 4.50 saw him home.
It was also a great day for his father Rafer who coached all seven athletes that represented Basingstoke at Bedford over the weekend plus two others. In an event that was live streamed throughout the two days it was good to see the Basingstoke vest so prominent and the athletes progress was watched with great interest.
Behind Caius, Nicholas Jerome was 4th with a PB of 7141 points, Tom Chandler 7th also recording a PB of 6913, Ryan Bonifas 10th 5936, and Josh Strudwick 12th 5519 of the 20 athletes who finished. Dan Thomas also competed but withdrew after the 400m on day one.
In the Women’s Championship, Laura Darcey was 10th scoring 5097 points a 403 point PB and HC Athlete Jordanna Morrish came 14th with 4565 in her first outdoor Hepthalon having previously scored 3761 indoors.
