Basingstoke ObserverARTISTS from Basingstoke painted, knitted and sculpted sunflowers to raise more than £3,000 in support of Ukraine.
The sunflower art sale was organised by Rachel Davis, an artist based at THAT Galley in Festival Place.
So far, a total of £3,690 has been raised in support of Ukraine, with the proceeds being split evenly between Unicef and Red Cross.
Items on sale included sunflower paintings, collages, digital art, ceramics, crochet, handmade cards, prints, lino cuts and jewellery.
Rachel Davis said: “We were delighted to welcome so many people to the sale – the strength of community support for this cause was heartwarming. Art and craft donations came from all age ranges, and off the back of this event, a talented 14-year-old emerging artist received her first commission. We look forward to seeing her go on to do great things and maybe exhibit in THAT Gallery one day.
We are continuing to sell sunflower pieces in the gallery, with all proceeds going to Ukraine.”
Festival Place Events and Community manager Sian Fisher added: “It was a real joy seeing all the sunflowers blooming at Festival Place in support of the people of Ukraine. We are extremely proud to have been a part of this initiative and it has been lovely to see so many people in our local community get involved.”
