ON Sunday 19 June, the Basingstoke Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) in collaboration with the Basingstoke Hindu Society proudly returned with the much anticipated annual Sewa cricket charity event.
The day began with yoga and meditation in celebration of the international yoga day which is marked every year on the summer solstice, 21June. The day was followed by the main event, the sewa cricket tournament which featured twelve strong, enthusiastic and fun teams from the local area who were all keen to participate and raise money for the charity.
A spokesperson shared: “Although the initial weather forecast was not promising, we were lucky to have the perfect conditions for the tournament which included a warm and somewhat sunny day too. We were also lucky to have the support of the community who attended with families and in large numbers on the day in the esteemed presence of the Mayor of Basingstoke and his wife.
The event was a great success and over £3000 collected for Charities to be shared with Basingstoke Young Carers Mayor’s Charity, Sewa International Sri Lankan appeal and Bangladesh appeal. We would like to thank the community for their selfless work in bringing another great day to Basingstoke and we look forward to doing it again next year.
We would also like to thank all the members of the Basingstoke HSS who made this event possible. Sewa means selfless and altruistic services to the less fortunate ones in the world and we are proud to be a part of this wonderful charity.”
