Basingstoke Male Voice Choir

BASINGSTOKE Male Voice Choir are on the lookout for new members.

Malcolm Gallani Chairman explained: “The choir emerged from the Covid-19 Pandemic much reduced and, in order to boost numbers, ran a recent marketing programme under the guidance of FACE/TV who had previously worked with the choir prior to the ‘halt in proceedings’. A key element of the campaign was a choir Open Evening held at our rehearsal venue of St Michael’s Church Cottage.

The evening was a great success and, consequently, the choir received a much needed boost to membership. Rehearsals have begun with the new members but we would still love to recruit even more. At its peak in the 1980s, the choir could muster 98 choristers and whilst we are nowhere near that number today we would still benefit from increased membership.

We have already recruited nine new members in 2022 but need more.

Our Music Director, Richard Childress, continues to develop our repertoire to include more contemporary items which appeal to a wider cross section. A highlight of the Open Evening was the recruitment of our youngest ever member – a student at QMC. Time for a few more?

We rehearse every Tuesday at St Michael’s Church Cottage from 7:30 PM. We welcome potential choristers turning up at rehearsal – you’ll be made very welcome.
