Kendal Gardens Platinum Party

THE best laid plans of mice and men was to the forefront of minds when the al fresco Jubilee tea party long planned to take place in the garden of one retirement complex in Kempshott suddenly had to have a change of venue as rain was threatened for Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday afternoon, with the deteriorating change of weather, Mark Gorman, catering manager, Howard Park Bowls Club in South Ham offered to host the party in the club house as the bowls team had an away match which meant the club room would be unused.

Wyn Weston, organiser of the event, Janet Fagg and Pearl Saunders, the newest resident in Kendal Gardens, spent several hours on Sunday decorating the club room and tables with all the bunting that should have decorated the garden.

Success all round was the opinion of all the retirees, including attendee Dennis Barber, 102, resident at Kendal Gardens and past president of the Bowls Club . As well as toasting The Queen, grateful thanks were expressed to Wyn and her committee that included Sue Andrews who had made and decorated a cake for the occasion.
