PEOPLE visiting or working in the town centre will see some changes among the Chaplains who meet people in the streets and visit shops and other work places.
Octogenarian Alan Casebow has retired after more than 12 years of service as a Chaplain. It is not so much a case of hanging up his boots but of parking his mobility scooter. For several years he has been in town on his scooter, meeting and chatting to people and he especially enjoyed participating in the Age Concern café on Wednesday mornings. He has been a friend and confidante to many over the years and will be missed by those he met regularly.
But look out for some new Chaplains who are here to listen and support anyone who wants a chat about any matter or concern. Talking though something may be just the help required, and Chaplains are trained in listening skills as well as in knowing where help can be obtained for many different issues.
They wear distinctive uniforms in navy, green or white during the summer, and are easily identifiable. You’ll see them around town, and at Eastrop Live on 18th June.
