SAINSBURY’S has confirmed that construction of its new 25,000 sq. ft. supermarket in Hook is now underway.
To celebrate this important milestone and the start of work to build the store, Sainsbury’s hosted a tour of the site with key representatives from the local community, who also took part in a small ground-breaking ceremony. Sainsbury’s Hook is set to open in spring 2023.
Once open, the new store will provide customers with a selection of food and non-food products, including Sainsbury’s Tu Clothing range and a core selection from its much-loved Habitat brand. Sainsbury’s Hook will also feature an Argos collection point inside the supermarket.
Sainsbury’s Hook represents a major investment in the area and later this year Sainsbury’s will start the recruitment of over 100 colleagues to join the new store team. This will mean job opportunities across multiple departments, ranging from entry to management level.
Sainsbury’s Property Director, Patrick Dunne, shared: “We’re really pleased to be taking the next step in our plans to deliver this much-anticipated new store for Hook. We will be keeping the local community informed as construction progresses and look forward to welcoming new colleagues and the community to our store next year.”
Ranil Jayawardena, Member of Parliament for North East Hampshire added: “I am pleased to have been asked to turn the first sod on a store that will create jobs and improve choice for the people of Hook and neighbouring villages.”
Cllr Jane Worlock, Chairman of Hart District Council and ward member for Hook, said: “I really enjoyed visiting the site of the new Sainsbury’s supermarket and meeting the team who have been working hard to bring the best possible store to Hook. The new store will provide a great boost to the local community, and I look forward to it opening next year.”
Cllr Dermot Smith, Hart District Councilor for Hook, concluded: “It was fantastic to visit the site for the new store and hear about Sainsbury’s plans to bring it to life. Residents are looking forward to having greater shopping choice locally and additional employment opportunities within the village.”
