‘HE who plants a tree plants a hope’ (Lucy Larcom 1824 –1893).
Basingstoke Lions Club has planted two trees of hope as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative.
The latest plantings of two cherry tree saplings at the Old Basing Royal British Legion Club are in honour of Her Majesty the Queen’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee.
Acquired by the Club from The Woodland Trust, thirty saplings have found homes via the Club in various locations in the Borough, including North Hants. Hospital, BCoT, Audley’s Resource Centre, Parklands Hospital and various schools.
This British Legion placement was a particularly fitting tribute to Her Majesty, who has been its Patron since 1952.
A Basingstoke Club spokesperson said: “‘He who plants a tree plants a hope’ (Lucy Larcom 1824 –1893). Charity donations have been hard to come by in these difficult times but the Club’s motto We Serve applies whatever and whenever. The Basingstoke Lions Club proudly continues to Serve its community.”
