‘Twas Only For One Night

LUTHER UK dazzled the Basingstoke audience on Friday 6 May at the Anvil with a show stopping performance from start to finish.

It was a shame that it was only for one night as the incredible tribute band to the legendary Luther Vandross belted out hit after hit.

Led by the velvety tones of Harry Cambridge, he was supported on stage throughout the performance by the Trio of Goodness and a five piece band.

The performance was so akin to the original that you had to pinch yourself as a reminder, you were not watching the real thing. Every detail from the tone of voice, dance moves and costumes were choreographed to perfection.

There was constant interaction with the crowd along with local Basingstoke references. While the star of the show was Harry himself, each member of his Trio of Goodness had their own chance to shine as they were each given their own spotlight for a song. Gemma joined Harry for a moving performance of Endless Love, Princess Holly and Ryan clearly had his own private fan base in the audience.

Harry revealed that the most popular song request is A house is not a home which was clearly a popular choice with the Basingstoke audience.

In the lead up to the interval the Anvil Was rocking with almost every audience member on their feet dancing.

With Harry leading from the front, the evening felt as if each member of the audience was being personally serenaded by Luther with the Trio of Goodness, perfectly coordinated and smiling throughout.

Full of crowd involvement, the evening was funny, poignant, moving and a lot of fun. A phenomenal show, with a special nod to Lee on drums who added something special to every song. There was not a dry eye in the house for Dance with my father, the last song recorded by Luther Vandross.

An exceptional night that felt like we had been up close and personal with Luther himself.
