STUDENTS from across Hampshire are set to attend TeenTech Hampshire Festival hosted by Maggie Philbin and Dallas Campbell.
TeenTech Hampshire Festival, organised by EBP South, will be returning for the ninth year. The event, which will take place at Hampshire Court Hotel on the 29 June, aims to change perceptions of STEM careers amongst teenagers and their teachers and to act as a catalyst to encourage industry to engage with young people.
TeenTech Hampshire Festival is a lively one-day interactive programme, founded by broadcaster Maggie Philbin and hosted by Dallas Campbell, which features a diverse range of STEM businesses and training providers inspiring young people through hands-on activities and challenges.
Students aged 12-14 are given the opportunity to engage with business professionals and consider career paths in a variety of vocations by taking part in different zones, such as the challenge zone and insight zone.
Founder of TeenTech, Maggie Philbin said: “It was only when I started work on the iconic Tomorrow’s World show that I had any real idea of just how big the world of science and technology really was. TeenTech brings these opportunities to life, especially for young people who may never have considered a career in these fast growing and exciting sectors.”
Emlyn Taylor, Lockheed Martin UK Rotary and Mission Systems Group Managing Director added: “Advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is a critical focus for Lockheed Martin. We believe that our future success and ability to engineer a better tomorrow depends on a constant supply of highly trained, highly capable technical talent. Through our education partnerships across the country, we provide engaging opportunities with young people to help inspire the next generation of engineers, technicians and even astronauts. Lockheed Martin is delighted to sponsor the TeenTechTM Hampshire Festival and be part of such an important event to show young people in the Hampshire area how exciting and rewarding a career in STEM can be.”
Jen Laidlaw, Project Coordinator at EBP South concluded: “TeenTechTM Hampshire Festival provides businesses with an important chance to influence the future workforce by inspiring young people to want to work in their industry. It challenges students to rethink any preconceived ideas and stereotypes about different job roles and allows them to be creative and innovative when looking at different tasks. It is important, now more than ever, that businesses can communicate with students to help bridge the skills gap.”
