LOCAL Elections took place across our region on Thursday 5 May with the results being declared in full on Friday 6 May.
Do you know who has been elected in your area?
Speaking after the count concluded, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Leader, Cllr Simon Bound shared: “Clearly it has been a mixed election for all parties up and down the county. As local Conservative councillors and candidates across the borough we have heard loud and clear from residents that they appreciate how well run the borough council is.
They want us to continue delivering services we all value, work hard so that we only have to deliver the homes we need, protect our wonderful local environment and achieve net zero as a council.
It appears ministers will soon examine how the planning inspectorate enforces local housing need targets. Hopefully areas like ours, that are constrained by areas of natural beauty, will no longer be expected to reach “unrealistic” levels of housebuilding if they can produce a robust plan that is well evidenced. This is long overdue and must be done without delay. Planning Inspectors must take into account our local evidence, we know our borough best.
I’ve said it before. Enough of this high octane build build build, enough is enough, we’ve done more than our fair share. I commit to supporting our residents, protecting what our residents value and protecting the environment and landscapes that we all enjoy.”
