Les Musicals

Ultimate Celebration Of Musical Theatre

Ansell’s Les Musicals, at The Anvil on Wednesday 29 June, is the ultimate celebration of musical theatre.

Jonathan Ansell, G4 frontman, and Jai McDowall, Britain’s Got Talent winner, have joined forces to create a dramatic and spine-tingling concert.

This vocally dynamic evening showcases smash-hit songs from the greatest musicals of all time, brought to you by two of the finest voices. Immerse yourself into the world of musicals with favourites from Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, We Will Rock You and many more.

We heard from the duo ahead of their Anvil performance.

What’s new about Ansell’s Les Musicals 2022?

Jonathan: We have loads of new exciting songs and banter which are receiving rapturous ovations night after night. The Les Misérables finale is a huge favourite for all, where we showcase a selection of our favourite smash hits from this remarkable production. We also love the chance to share songs from Phantom Of The Opera, Hamilton, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Greatest Showman, Miss Saigon, Chess, We Will Rock You, Dear Evan Hansen, Rent, Chicago and many more.

What are your favourite musicals to watch?

Jai: My favourite musical is Avenue Q.

Jonathan: I have to say it has to be Les Misérables - always moves me to tears, however many times I watch it.

Who should come and see you?

Jonathan: What is wonderful about this tour is to see such a varied audience. The most touching for me is to see multigenerational family groups who have come to enjoy a lovely night out together. We all need to get back to this escapism once again and it’s heart-warming to see the joy it’s clearly bringing people.

Jai: Everyone, we see a mix of older fans but also a lot of younger ones too.

What challenges have live theatre faced since COVID?

Jonathan: The pandemic has been truly tragic for the entertainment sector. The prolonged and repeated restrictions shut venues and sadly caused many to have to close indefinitely. Performers have been forced to leave the profession in pursuit of a stable job to support families, but thankfully through the mutual resilience and support of friends, family and colleagues, we strive to reach the sectors flourishing highs and build the industry back to its former glory as soon as we possibly can. This will only, however, be possible with audience support through attendance to shows that hit the road over the coming months.

Why are you excited to get back on the stage with this show?

Jonathan: I love standing alongside Jai as he is a blast to work with. His voice is also rather special to collaborate with. There is something special about a Scottish tone that certainly excites me to listen to it!

Jai: Having completed the 1st half of the tour already, I can’t wait to get back out to see everyone in the audience and share the stage with Jonathan, it’s a fun show to be part of.

Tickets are priced at £29.50. VIP £62.50 where you join Jonathan and Jai for a pre-show Meet and Greet experience, including free drink. Subject to availability. (Prices include £3 booking fee). Contact the Anvil Arts box office on 01256 844244 or visit anvilarts.org.uk.
